Quesada on \u201cThe African Heritage of Caribbean and Latinx Literature\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Writing Latinos<\/em>, from <em>Public Books<\/em>, features interviews with Latino (a\/x\/e) authors discussing their books and how their writing contributes to the ever-changing conversation about the meanings of <em>latinidad<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In this episode, you\u2019ll hear our interview with Sarah Margarita Quesada about her new book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/books\/african-heritage-of-latinx-and-caribbean-literature\/92CA287F943DB223D856BF09D913FAA4\"><em>The African Heritage of Caribbean and Latinx Literature<\/em><\/a>, published by Cambridge University Press (2022). We discussed how the writing of Caribbean and Latinx authors\u2013especially Junot D\u00edaz, Achy Obejas, Rudolfo Anaya, and Tom\u00e1s Rivera\u2013was shaped by their thinking about what Quesada describes as \u201cLatin Africa.\u201d Unlike other Latinx writers I know, Quesada is also trained in African Studies. She argues that we can\u2019t talk about Blackness here in the United States without also taking Africans and Africa\u2014as a place and as an idea\u2014seriously.<\/p>\n<p>Quesada is an assistant professor of romance studies at Duke University.
