Annie McClanahan is an associate professor of English at UC Irvine. She is the author of Dead Pledges: Debt, Crisis, and 21st Century Culture (Stanford, 2017) and the forthcoming Beneath the Wage: Tips, Tasks, and Gigs in the Age of Service Work (Zone Books, 2026). She is also a faculty co-director for UCI-LIFTED, which offers a BA degree to students incarcerated at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility.
